Cybersecurity Newsletter #2: Safer Wi‑Fi, Smarter Habits

Cybersecurity Newsletter #2: Safer Wi‑Fi, Smarter Habits

Hello Team,

To keep our digital workspace safe, we are focusing on a new Wi-Fi policy and highlighting the hidden risks of public networks. These small steps protect both our company data and your hard work.

1. New Policy: Two Separate Networks

Think of our main network as a private office vault. By moving personal phones and guests to the Guest Wi-Fi, we ensure that if a personal device is compromised, it cannot "jump" to our sensitive company files.

OFFICE LAPTOPS: Oak Drive Ventures Inc.
GUESTS & PERSONAL: ODVI Guest WiFi

2. Public Wi-Fi: The "Free" Trap

Free Wi-Fi is unencrypted, meaning your data is "flying through the air" for anyone to grab.

  • The "Evil Twin": Fake hotspots set up to steal passwords.
  • Packet Sniffing: Strangers nearby "listening" to your data traffic.
  • The "Human Hack": People peeking at your screen in public places.
💡 Safe Browsing Rules:
  • Never access banks or ODVI internal portals on free Wi-Fi.
  • Always verify the exact network name with shop staff.
  • Best practice: Use your phone’s Personal Hotspot instead.

🚨 EMERGENCY: If your laptop acts strangely, disconnect immediately and contact IT!

3. The "Quick Lock" Habit

Lock your screen every time you leave your desk—even for a minute.

STAY VIGILANT.
